What is WebTeach? WebTeach provides a structured way for individuals
to participate in collaborative endeavours, such as online teaching and
learning, project and management teams and community group processes –
in fact, anywhere that people need to come together with a common purpose.
It offers an asynchronous, computer-based system to support group interaction
in an online environment. The system can be tailored to meet individual preferences
for interface and functionality and requires only a standard web browser
to provide a fully structured and secure collaborative environment. WebTeach
can be installed on your server or hosted as a service on our equipment. Why is it different? WebTeach puts interaction at the heart of online learning
and decision-making. All resources and other course materials are introduced
as an integral part of the interaction within the group or with the facilitator.
In addition to sophisticated support for the main elements of discussion,
WebTeach provides structured support for small group teaching processes
such as brainstorming, questioning, task setting, case studies, voting,
buzz groups and formal or informal debates. WebTeach differs from other online learning and collaborative environments in that it focuses on supporting quality interaction through the provision of structures for familiar group processes. Other online learning systems provide course management tools with only a threaded ‘newsgroup’ or synchronous chat facility to support interaction. But effective learning and decision-making requires more than simply connecting the participants – they also require explicit leadership and structured interactions towards the stated goals of the group.
